Project Overview
Designing a Tokenized Fantasy Game for Web3 Creators
Summary
Pump Pals is a collectible trading card game built for the Web3 creator economy, blending crypto-native token systems with a whimsical, pack-opening fantasy world. As the lead designer, I owned the end-to-end product experience: from card design systems and reward mechanics to token launcher UX and branded storefronts.
I crafted the visual language, gameplay UX, and gamified progression systems that made Pump Pals feel like a playable digital toy, layered with blockchain logic under the hood.
The Problem
Most crypto games lean too far into DeFi complexity or lack meaningful engagement loops. Web3 creators needed a playful, visually rich game environment that still offered real utility through token systems.
Key Frictions
Card games often lacked clarity in rarity, mechanics, or pack logic
Minting or claiming was gated behind opaque Web3 flows
Token utility felt disconnected from gameplay
Players wanted both collectible depth and future battle readiness
Balancing user engagement with monetization for creators

Design Goals
Design Goals
Design an accessible digital card game rooted in rarity, progression, and collection
Create immersive pack-opening mechanics that reflect on-chain metadata
Build a future-proof foundation for PVP battles, team synergy, and stat-based effects
Ensure all blockchain interactions (minting, trading, unlocking) feel fun and trustworthy

Design
Trading Card UX System
Developed a modular card component system for characters and variants.
Rarity frames (common, epic, legendary) with animated states
Variant previews triggered via hover or tap
Pack reveal animations with rarity-specific effects
Each card felt collectible, expressive, and purpose-built for future battle logic.
Pack-Opening & Collection Flow
Created a dynamic, gamified pack-opening experience that served as the game’s emotional hook.
Staged animations with rarity anticipation effects
Post-reveal profile bind and collection view
Tooltip system explaining rarity, abilities (future-proofed), and ownership
Storefront & Claim Interface
Designed the main hub for acquiring cards via bundles, drops, and claims.
Variant-hover card previews tied to claim states
Dark mode UI with bright visual contrast and soft animations
Responsive layout for mobile claim experiences
Token Launcher UX (Creator Side)
While the card game is player-facing, I also built a no-code token launcher for creators to deploy ERC-20 tokens powering their in-game ecosystems.
Token setup: naming, symbol, supply
Unlock schedule editor with interactive timeline
Creator dashboard to track vesting and token metrics
Battle UX Foundations
Laid the groundwork for a future PVP mode with collectible-based team loadouts.
Card rarity synergies and stat effects
Team builder interface
Teasers for upcoming features and locked mechanics
Pack Purchasing

Impact
Impact
Impact
Launched the card-based game loop and pack UX now used by thousands of players
Created a responsive design system scalable for future battle, trading, and leaderboard features
Made Web3 feel fun, polished, and character-driven without compromising utility
Pump Pals is where I proved that crypto products can feel like games, not just finance tools. By grounding rarity, ownership, and interaction in delightful UX, I bridged token logic with real emotional value. The result is a collectible game with long-term potential, and a blueprint for how Web3 IP should be built.
