About
Pump Pals is a digital trading card platform that blends nostalgia with internet-native meme culture. As the sole designer, I owned the full product experience from branding and UI systems to collectable interaction flows.®
The Problem
We set out to reimagine collectable TCG (trading card game) mechanics for a digital-first audience, especially one engaged in NSFW fandoms and social meme culture.
The challenge was building a high-conversion flow that felt satisfying, and fast, while maintaining visually bold and community-sharable.

Research, Competitive Analysis, and Goals
Research, Competitive Analysis, and Goals
Studied digital collectables (NBA Top Shot, Sorare, Gacha Systems)
Audited viral meme accounts for tone, visual language, and call-to-action structure
Interviewed early testers from Discord and X for friction points and vibe resonance
Fast, frictionless collectible flow (less than 10s to first flip)
Strong visual brand identity with viral poster potential
Inventory system that scales with future card drops + rarity filtering
Key Features & UX Solutions
Key Features & UX Solutions
Pack Opening Flow:
Designed a 5-card flipping interface using sequential animations
Built in instant feedback (e.g. glow effects, rarity reveals) to enhance emotional payoff
UX aimed to mimic the feel of opening physical cards while being tap-friendly
Deck Builder System
Designed a modular deck builder interface allowing users to create, save, and organize card combinations.
Prioritized fast interactions for drag-and-drop sorting, rarity visualization, and card stat overlays.
Integrated collection filters by rarity, tag, and type to support both casual collecting and strategic use cases.
Created “empty deck” and “incomplete set” states to guide new users and nudge collection behavior.

Results
Results
Over 2,000 early access signups within 30 days of soft launch
80%+ completion rate of first pack open flow
Twitter/X content reached 100K+ impressions with 1K+ organic followers gained
Received anecdotal praise for “satisfying UX” and “nostalgic TCG vibes”
This project stretched my ability to balance playful visual storytelling with scalable systems thinking. I also gained experience designing for a niche NSFW-adjacent audience, which required thoughtful content boundaries, smart UI copy, and adaptable visuals.
